Founder of Staten Island-Based Jeweler Gerald Peters to Be Honored at Michael's Cause 9th Annual Dinner Dance

As one of the most severe forms of muscular dystrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic condition in which boys suffer from a slow wasting of their muscular tissue. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition yet, but geneticists are working daily to discover a medical treatment for the young men diagnosed with the condition.
One of those young men is Michael Capolongo, a 15-year-old boy from New York. Having been diagnosed with DMD in 2010, Michael has put himself forward as the face for outreach and education. The Michael's Cause organization, named for him, strives to educate the public about DMD and raise money for both scientific research and assistance for families dealing with the condition.
